We are very excited to this new addition to the museum! The schoolhouse was built about a mile South of the museum so that the children from the farms on Plummer’s Ridge did not have to travel long distances to downtown Milton, especially in the winter. The last school session was in 1912 and the building was sold to the Plummer’s Ridge Sewing Circle in 1922.
Prior to the acquisition by the New Hampshire Farm Museum, it was owned by the Town of Milton and maintained primarily by John Katwick, a long-time resident of Milton. Realizing the historical significance of the schoolhouse, the Farm Museum proposed to add the schoolhouse to the Museum grounds for school children to visit as part of the Museum experience.
We are pleased that this move was approved by the Town of Milton in its March, 2024 election. This is going to be such an exciting day. Please share this news with all your friends and neighbors!!!
