DESCRIPTION:Fun & Games at the Farm!\nChildren’s Day is a blast! Join us for childish play from yesteryear and learn about the important roles that children played on the farm. The whole day is packed with fun! \nDATE: Saturday June 20\, 2026\nTIME: 10:00 to 4:00 \n\nGames\, Crafts\, Activities\, and Snacks!\n\nYou don’t want to miss out on this! From 10 am to 12 noon\, watch our flock of sheep as our sheepherder uses his Australian sheep dog to herd the sheep and sheer their fleece. Did you know that shearing sheep is a necessary practice for the domestic sheep’s health and comfort? Without annual shearing\, the excessive wool growth can lead to overheating\, parasite infestations\, and mobility issues. Sheering is important!\nTake a tractor ride to explore our fifty plus acre farm.\nMeet our cows\, sheep\, pigs\, and goats as they graze in their pastures. (Bring some carrots or apples to feed them\, or purchase grain at the Country Store!)\nVisit our Blacksmith Shoppe and watch as our Blacksmith swings his hammer and fires up the forge!\nParticipate in the Big Yellow Barn Scavenger Hunt in our 104-foot long barn. Prizes awarded for those who finish!\nFacepainting for children will be ongoing on the Jones front porch!\nChildren will enjoy colonial chores as their colonial counterparts once did such as using a scrub board and a wringer washer to wash clothes\, pump water\, or carry buckets with a wooden yoke!\nOur miniature reproduction Wells Fargo Stage Coach\, a replica of the 1852 Wells Fargo stagecoach\, will give rides throughout the day for children under 15. Known for its red and gold color\, these coaches became an enduring symbol of the company’s speed\, reliability and western legacy.\nOur storyteller will be in the ell today reading G is For Granite: A New Hampshire Alphabet by Marie Harris\, New Hampshire poet laureate from 1999 -2004. Discover\, in verse and picture form\, about the rich heritage of New Hampshire!\nTour the historic Jones House and 1810 Tavern and see the place that five generations of the same family once lived and called home!\nThere will be a pie eating contest for children ages 12 and under! Prizes awarded!\nGames! Children’s day field races include sack races\, three-legged race\, egg-in-a-spoon race\, wheelbarrow race\, and more! Or join with family and friends in parachute games and corn hole!\nTour the 1940s kitchen with Elizabeth Jones and make butter using farm fresh heavy cream. Then sample some on homemade cornbread from an 1800s recipe! The public is also invited to sample pies from local bakeries and vote for the people’s choice for best professional baker! \nDATE: Saturday September 19\, 2026\nTIME: 10:00 to 4:00\nADMISSION: $15 per person; free for piemakers! Children 12 and under: $5 each. \nWant to enter the competition?\nEnter a pie and get free entry! Categories include Apple\, Fruit (Non-Apple)\, Sweet (Non-Fruit)\, and Savory. DESCRIPTION:Come see an 1863 Thanksgiving!\nEnjoy 19th century holiday music in the parlor\, take a horse drawn wagon ride through the fields\, visit our Blacksmith Shoppe\, stop by the open hearth outside for a sip of mulled cider\, or try your hand at roasting popcorn over the coals. \nMeet Sarah Josepha Hale\, the Newport\, New Hampshire native\, who is considered the inspiration behind the first nationally proclaimed day of Thanksgiving. We invite you and your family to meet Sarah Josepha Hale as she reads excerpts from her letter to Abraham Lincoln. Guides in period dress will be there to meet you upon your visit. \nThe table in the Victorian parlor will be set as it was in 1863\, complete with such delectables as baked butternut squash with maple syrup and cinnamon glaze\, oyster stuffing\, homemade cornbread\, ground cranberry orange sauce\, mincemeat pie\, squash pie\, pumpkin pie\, and more! DESCRIPTION:An old fashioned Christmas on the farm!\nTravel back to a simpler time before there were cars and big machinery. Our guides will be in period dress and ready to welcome you on your arrival!  Our property has been gaily decorated with freshly cut pine boughs\, garland and wreaths. Baskets of pinecones\, boughs and bittersweet adorn the center hallway.  \nDATE: Saturday December 5\, 2026\nTIME:10:00 to 4:00 \n\nA full day of Christmas activities!\n\nYoungsters of all ages will enjoy making a pinecone decoration for our outdoor feathery friends. Keep it for your tree\, or hang it outside on our tree.\nTractor rides\, Barn tours\, and the Blacksmith Shoppe will be open with live demonstrations!\nMake popcorn on the open fire outside!\nVisit the 1940s kitchen and sample homemade gingerbread cake\, mincemeat pie\, and Christmas cake (fruit cake).\nMeet young Emma Jones as she fashions this year’s gingerbread house.\nEnjoy the fragrance of our live Christmas tree\, decorated with freshly strung cranberries\, pine cones\, pomanders\, cinnamon sticks\, and candle clips.\nSing along with your hostess to such Victorian favorites as Good King Wencelas\, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen\, and more!\nOur tavern will have a variety of craftsmen demonstrating their trades.\nIn the Victorian dining room\, the table is set with the 1825 Haviland china that Levi and Betsy Plummer Jones used to entertain their guests.
