Harvest Festival 2019

Celebrate harvest time at the Farm Museum!

Enjoy the tasty treats of harvest time at the farm, harvest games, and wagon rides as we celebrate autumn. We’ll have cider donuts on a string ($1), cider samples at our own apple cider barn, farm animals, and much more!

This year we will also be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the children’s book, Ox-Cart Man! This two-part event actually begins right here at the Farm Museum and continues next week at the Strawberry Banke Museum in Portsmouth. Just like in the story, we will be packing up the cart from our farmhouse, filling it with all of the items listed in the book for the farmer to sell at market in Portsmouth. Watch the ox-drawn cart as heads off on its long journey south, and next week, you can view the cart as it arrives in Portsmouth at Strawbery Banke!

Richie’s Famous Hot Dog Cart will also be on site for food.

About the book, Ox-Cart Man

Ox-Cart Man is a children’s book about the life and work of an early 19th-century farming family in New Hampshire, very much like our very own Jones farmhouse right here in Milton.

Written by Donald Hall and illustrated by Barbara Cooney, Ox-Cart Man won the Caldecott Medal for most distinguished American picture book for children.
